Nymphea 2022

When the place is no longer habitable, a spirit evaporates and floats away into the nothingness of endless space.
Few things he takes with him on his journey and holds on to dearly, his halo and his red telephone to make sure someone in disrance that he loves will not be out of reach.
In the emptiness of endless space, his bubble will keep him safe while he goes wherever journey takes him to.

In my own words

Nympheas: The spirit of water representing birth and resurrection due to their striking ability to emerge.
Spirit of water is one of the most challenging topic for me, I was inspired by Gustav Klimt and Claude Monet, my top tier favourite artists.
Both have created iconic paintings of Nymphea in their own way, and after a period of crystalizing about universe and life I asked myself,
"What about my nympheas?". Then one morning in Bangkok I picked up the brush and let me heart and my head lead my hand to express what my Nympheas would be.

Nympheas and Global Issues

When the planet is no longer habitable, instead of working much harder to reduce, end or solve problems like global warming, wars or the HIV pandemic which has no cure, the world, driven by greed for power, similar to colonization, focuses on space program looking outward, far and far away, not caring enough about the inside.

Human were born into the earth, fuck the earth until it is inhabitable, then look for way out somewhere else to call home.
Just like HIV virus fucks up the human cells and then budding away to infect others.
In the end, HIV wins because human are busy fighting and killing each others.
50 years after WWII, the world has never run out of war, every year there are wars somewhere.
30 years after HIV/AIDS epidemic, there is no cure for HIV, every minute someone is being infected, every year people die of AIDS.
It's understandable why when there's nowhere left to live, nothing left in their life, when the only thing they have left is just a token of their memory a lot of people just give up in life, in everything. What about us?

Dr.Deyn's Nympheas and HIV Pandemic

When look closer to Nympheas. This artwork also represents HIV physiology or HIV life cycle, after HIV bind, fused, integrated, replicate and assembled inside human cell, the virus then bud away and mature, get ready to infect other cell they'll find on their way.

This artwork is saying a lot of things and one of them being. "Yes, I am living with HIV but I am dealing with it peacefully and I am growing, I emerge."

HIV travels in every train and airplane without having to buy a ticket or wondering which application to use to book the trip.
HIV doesn't care if you're black, blonde or brown. HIV doesn't discriminate but humans are busy discriminate among themselves.
HIV doesn't judge. People judge and stigmatize other people causing them unneccessary preventable pain making their lives harder to live.
HIV works everyday and every night while human need weekends and a lot of days off. That's why PULSE Clinics opens every day without day off to make sure somewhere in the world we work as hard as we can to make progress in battling off the HIV and the stigma around it, to make sure that not only people living with HIV can get the respectful loving caring heartfelt service treatment that they need, but also people who are not infected with HIV can get the prevention tools that they deserve.

30 years after HIV/AIDS epidemic, there is no cure for HIV, every minute someone is being infected, every year people die of AIDS.
Why would you ever retire?
